Fahrenheit 9/11

Submitted By Victor Owens

For all that it is worth, i need to bring a small matter to your attention.

In speaking with a close friend here in the SF Bay Area about his experience of seeing the film this Saturday, June 26, I became very disturbed. It seems that for some that do not want others to see the film, all one has to do is pull the fire alarm. Not just once, but three times today so far. My friend spoke with a manager, he stated that "yes this has happened three times today", he then added that he did not have enough security to cover all alarms in the movie house. This is to be expected. Movie Houses are not about looking at every exit & fire alarm in the building, but just the fact that we now have a new form of disruption in the flow of information to a general paying audience is enough to make any one's blood boil! Not to forget that to cry wolf to any fire department in any situation has to be a crime in itself. The public is in a direct disservice from Bush Supporters that take it upon themselves to find this creative act of "Censorship" as a means to shut out the right to express a point of view.

The theater in question is located in Santa Rosa, CA.

You do not have to take my word for it, give them a call directly to see if they have any resolve to the situation.
I admit a time when I thought is was great to be from the US.
But now I feel shame, sadness, extreme frustration and a feeling of weakness over what THOSE PEOPLE do in our name.
Sometimes I now wish I was never from this place.
And that is right, I am no longer proud to be an American.

Greetings friends --

1. FAHRENHEIT 9/11. As you are all undoubtedly aware, Michael Moore's new
film opened on Friday, and from all reports is just as damning an indictment
of the Bush administration as pre-release publicity had indicated. It's
also -- typical Moore -- quite funny. Some of you have already trekked over
to Santa Rosa or Ukiah to see it, others plan to do so, but for those who
have no other reasons to visit the metropolii it's a long way to go and a
uses up a lot of gas, and as of now no showings are planned in Lake County.
It has been suggested that we could call the two local theaters (994-7469
and 263-5011) or email their managers ross@lakeportcinema.com and
scott@paradisecinema.com but it turns out that no scheduling decisions are
made locally so that would probably be a waste of effort. It would be more
effective to try to influence the person who decides what movies will appear
in both these venues, and that's Beth Feintech, Cinema West, PO Box 750595,
Petaluma, CA 94975. If you'd rather telephone than send a postcard, her
number is 762-0990, ext. 19. Thanks to Barbara for tracking all this
information down.

On Monday June 28 MoveOn and WinWithoutWar are sponsoring houseparties
throughout the United States where guests can participate in an online town
meeting with Michael Moore and discuss Fahrenheit 9/11 (whether or not
they've seen it yet). One such gathering will be held in Clearlake at 7PM:
for more information send an email to Becky (who's the hostess) at
beckyspi@mac.com.

Incidentally, those who have seen the movie can submit a review on Yahoo: go
to http://movies.yahoo.com/, click on "Fahrenheit 9/11" and scroll down to
"CriticalConsensus" to read professional critical opinion (B+ overall). To
post your OWN review, go to "User Reviews". As of now, Yahoo users give the
movie a B- overall, but most actual grades are either A or F which is a
pretty good indication of the polarization of the country at large. Thanks to Kathy for clueing me in on this.
