WorkshopsHEALING THE HEALERLinda Chapman MA, ATR-BC, RPT-SCourse Description: For those who work in the healing professions, the physical, psychological and emotional demands often generate anxiety, stagnation, frustration apathy, and symptoms of Post-traumatic Stress Disorder. Physicians, nurses, therapists, social workers, paramedics, law enforcement officials, and other caregivers are often profoundly affected by the magnitude and severity of stress associated with their work. For the past several years, attention has been given to the importance of self-assessment and self care, and the need for education and support pertaining to secondary stress. This three day workshop will provide an opportunity to identify and explore personal and professional issues related to very demanding work and work environments. In addition to didactic information and self-assessments, the creative arts will be used to rediscover and redefine the dedication, passion, and hope that often becomes lost in an overload of difficult and exhausting cases, responsibilities, regulations, and paper work. Through the use of dramatic play, art media, and play therapy techniques, participants will engage in the creative process as a method of expression, discovery and healing. The beautiful environs of Asilomar Conference Center beside the Pacific Ocean offer a rejuvenating and healing atmosphere that compliments the workshop format and material. No prior arts experience is required or necessary, and all experiential activities are designed to be personal, safe, and fun. This workshop material is of benefit to professionals in the fields of nursing, art therapy, psychology, social work, marriage, family and child counseling, play therapy, substance abuse counseling, and other health care providers.
