Although Kathy Lewis lives in Mendocino County, CA, "the most beautiful place on earth," she loves to visit Golden Gate Park, in San Francisco. Whenever she is there, to visit a museum or a gallery, she will also walk through the San Francisco Botanical Garden at Strying Arboretum, 55 acres of breathtaking beauty, which was founded in 1940. Some of her favorite garden areas there are the Moon Viewing, New Zealand, Eastern Australia and South Africa gardens. In the spring, she will make a point of visiting the collection of Califoria Native Plants, to view the Wild Iris in its different colors, and the large beds of Calla Lilies. When in Golden Gate Park, Kathy will often have a picnic lunch in the Rose Garden, drinking in the sights and smells of this little gem. There are an incredible number of different kinds and colors of roses, all carefully labeled. The flower paintings, both watercolor and oil, on this page and many others throughout this site, were inspired by the wonderful blooms in Golden Gate Park.
