Orchids are one of the most varied kinds of flowers. They are found on all continents except Antarctica, from rain forests to deserts, from sea level to mountain sides. Kathy Lewis finds them exciting to paint, because of their many shapes and interesting color combinations. Since they do not bloom very often, they are all about the show. Orchids vary in appearance from the bizarre to the sublime, from alien to ethereal. Kathy painted many of the orchids on this page from blooms she saw at the Pacific Orchid Expo, put on by the San Francisco Orchid Society...a must-do, if you are in the Bay Area in mid-February.
