THE LIES OF THE LION
Suellen Ocean's humorous, touching and steamy historical novel, The Lies of the Lion
is the story of Sephardic Jews who settled in Amsterdam in 1450, led by each generation's
reporter, the "Chronicler". When Jacob discovers Amsterdam's cryptic Rabbi is coercing the
Pope with fine art from Holland's masters, his investigations lead to Marie Belle Soeira,
whose banker father's wealth becomes the foundation for a new community south of Amsterdam.
During the brutal Inquisition, it is to this community, Akev that Jewish families flee after
persecution from their beloved homes in Spain and Portugal. Once in the Netherlands, the
refugees present themselves as Christians whose only defiance is their strong brotherhood
and secret worshiping.
With connections to Royals, succeeding Chronicler David, builds a secure haven for his
Jewish brethren. In an era when Christianity is seductive and Judaism persecuted to the
extreme, young and attractive Chroniclers Akev, Solomon, Jacques, Daniel, Seba and Leeuw
wrestle with their obligations and the struggle to balance their enigmatic pursuits of love
with the preservation of their culture. By the mid 1600s, the Dutch Republic had become a
land of new technology, wealth and culture, but not without the help of the cryptic community of Akev.
THE LIES OF THE LION is available in Amazon's Kindle and Barnes and Noble's Nook formats.
