Greyhounds have been the victims of horrific incidents such as these ever since the inception of pari-mutuel wagering over eighty years ago. Though they were once the protected and favored companion of Royalty, in modern-day America the greyhound is merely a means to an end, a commodity whose life and death is dictated by the greed of an intrinsically cruel form of gambling.

In dog racing, there is only one ultimate goal: profit! And when the graceful greyhounds don't meet that need, most are expendable. While, through the efforts of organizations such as ours, some are placed as pets, nearly 20,000 continue to be killed year-after-year. The "fortunate" ones are killed humanely. Others become documented horror stories. Thousands more disappear to fates unknown.

Founded in 1991, The Greyhound Protection League is a national, all volunteer, non-profit advocacy organization dedicated to eliminating dog racing through public education and legislative efforts.
