Dan Hamburg's
Bi-Monthly Radio Program

V.O.T.E. Action Committee is proud to sponsor Public Affairs with Dan Hamburg on the second and fourth Wednesday evening of the month from 6:30 to 7 pm. The program is aired on KZYX&Z (90.7 and 91.5 FM), a northcoast public radio station whose audience is Mendocino, southern Humboldt, western Lake, and northern Sonoma counties. Hamburg, former US Congressman for northcoast California, is executive director of V.O.T.E. Action Committee.

The theme of this program is the need for new politics, politics outside the framework of the corporate-dominated, two-party duopoly. Guests over the past six months have included:

Ralph Nader speaking on corporate domination of American society and the need for civic action to restore democracy.
Charles Reich discussing his new book "Opposing the System" and the need for ordinary citizens to find alternatives to the current political system.
Dennis Peron on Proposition 215 (legalization of medical marijuana) and its significance as a "movement issue."
Ronnie Dugger, author and social structure activist, talking about the Alliance for Democracy, a new national effort to bring corporations to bay and force fundamental campaign finance reform.
Medea Benjamin, co-founder and co-director of Global Exchange, on the new global economy and citizen campaigns to deal with deteriorated working conditions worldwide.
Sylvia Wynter, Stanford professor of African-American studies, on cultural transformation and the emerging "culture of the human being."
Rose Ann DeMoro, director of the California Nurses Association, on the concentration of the health care industry and its effect on profits and patient services.
Cecilia Lanman, projects director for the Environmental Protection Information Center, on new developments in the fight to save Headwaters Forest.
Susan Schock, founder and director of Gila Watch, on the abuse of our public lands and the sophisticated tactics of the Wise Use Movement.
